As I step into this year with the theme of "Relentless Focus and Consistent Action," I’ve been reflecting on the lessons I’ve learned over the past few years. These experiences have shaped me, challenged me, and ultimately prepared me to take consistent action toward my goals.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that success requires relentless, consistent action. Some people are so fearful of executing because they’re waiting for perfection that they never even begin. I would rather take action, imperfect, clumsy, and even risking embarrassing myself because I know that’s how I gain the skills and experience I need to keep moving forward. Sitting with a perfect plan that’s never been done means I’m not growing, and I refuse to let that be my story.
Over the last three years, these blogs have been my way of holding myself accountable making sure I stay focused and continue taking action, no matter what challenges arise.
1. Clarity comes from taking action. Sitting and waiting for things to make sense never works. Over the years, I’ve learned that clarity comes from doing the work, even when I don’t have all the answers. Although this doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, I know that action is the only way to truly find my path.
2. Feelings aren’t facts. One realization I’ve had and one I’ve known before but was really emphasized this past year is that feelings are not the truth. Looking at the facts of my life instead of being consumed by emotions has been a game-changer. When I peel back the emotions, fear, anxiety, and lack of confidence, and look at the facts, I usually see exactly what needs to be done.
3. Reprogramming my mindset is essential. I’ve faced beliefs and patterns that were holding me back and realized how important it is to reprogram my brain. This isn’t something I can do once and forget about it’s something I have to consistently work on as I move into new stages and places in my life. Each new challenge requires a new mindset, and staying intentional about reprogramming has been key to my growth.
4. Boundaries are non-negotiable. Clear boundaries protect my energy and focus. I’ve also learned to ask the hard questions: Is this opportunity truly beneficial to my growth? Is this relationship or situation helping me? If the answer is no, I’ve learned to let it go. Saying “no” to things that don’t serve me and removing people from my life who aren’t contributing to my growth has been a hard but necessary step toward creating space for what truly matters.
5. My daughter and I come first. I’ve always been someone who puts others first, but these years have taught me the importance of prioritizing myself and my daughter. We deserve to be cared for and protected above all else.
6. Hard work is part of the journey. There’s no shortcut to success. Hard work isn’t always glamorous, but it’s necessary, and it builds character.
7. Consistency is everything. Success isn’t about doing one big thing; it’s about doing small things every day. I’ve learned the kind of relentlessness that’s required to truly succeed. And the more I grow, the more consistent I have to be because what is required of me increases but the outcomes far exceed my expectations.
8. I can’t drag anyone along. I’ve spent years trying to carry people with me who didn’t want to come or expected to be carried a lot of the way. I’ve embraced the truth: you’re either with me, or you’re left behind.
9. Letting go creates room to grow. Letting go of people, habits, and beliefs that don’t serve me has been freeing. It’s created space for the things that truly matter.
10. Gratitude shifts everything. Even on my hardest days, gratitude has grounded me. Focusing on what I have instead of what I lack has been transformational. This is definitely one of my biggest lessons, but one I still have to work on. Sometimes, I can fall into a victim mentality when things don’t go my way, but I’m learning to be grateful for all the small successes along the journey.
11. Feelings are temporary, but habits last. I’ve learned to push through the days when I don’t feel motivated because feelings are fleeting. It’s the habits I’ve built that keep me moving. These habits create the foundation for long-term success and help me stay consistent even on the hard days.
12. My work is bigger than me. Whether it’s my solo show, the charitable trust I founded, my production company, my writing, or my programs, I’ve realized that my work has the power to impact others. That’s a responsibility I take seriously. I don’t always get it right, and that can be hard, especially when people are quick to judge but I keep going because I know my work matters.
13. I don’t owe everyone my energy. I’ve learned to protect my energy fiercely. If it’s not mutual, it’s not worth my time.
14. Other people’s views of me don’t matter. I don’t live my life for others. I live my life for me. I make decisions based on what’s best for me and my daughter. I do things I find fun because I’m here to live my life fully, not to fit into someone else’s expectations.
15. My daughter is watching. Everything I do sets an example for my daughter. She’s my biggest motivator to keep growing and becoming the best version of myself.
16. Rest is not laziness. I’ve battled with guilt over resting and have been working through not being such a workaholic, but I’ve come to understand that rest is a necessary part of the process. It’s what fuels my focus and consistency.
17. Discipline is greater than motivation. Motivation comes and goes, but discipline stays. I’ve learned to rely on discipline to keep me consistent, no matter how I feel.
18. My dreams deserve my relentlessness. If I want to achieve the extraordinary, I need to be relentless. I’ve stepped into a new level of determination to make my dreams a reality.
19. I don’t need anyone’s belief to achieve my goals. I’ve learned that I don’t need anyone to believe in, support, or value me to achieve my goals. The truth is, most people won’t support me, and that’s okay.
20. Knowing myself is my superpower. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to know myself better than anyone else. No matter what other people think is best for me or how they believe I should live my life, I’ve learned to trust myself and stay aligned with my vision, my goals, and what I want to achieve.
Moving forward, this year I’m stepping into ‘Relentless Focus and Consistent Action’ with these lessons as my foundation. Reflecting on these truths reminds me that success isn’t about having a perfect plan, it’s about executing that plan relentlessly. It’s in the doing that I’ll continue to learn, grow, and achieve everything I’m working toward.
What lessons have you learned over the past few years?
