I recently had some women tell me that we shouldn’t be making mistakes in business. I completely disagree and think it is a silly thing to say. To me, that is all a part of the learning process. I think, whenever we are trying something new for the first time, we will make mistakes as we are trying to figure things out. We can be given the full template or blueprint of how to do something but we still have to adjust by doing things our way. A child who is learning to walk will fall over again and again because that is how they will learn. This week, I have decided to focus on what mistakes can teach us.
What can mistakes teach us?
Mistakes teach us to clarify what we really want in life.
To appreciate ourselves and accept our failures more.
Mistakes teach us our truth and not be embarrassed by them.
Mistakes teach us to take responsibility. When we make mistakes we sometimes think to blame others but it is so much better to accept it and work through it.
Helps us get better
Can teach us the value of forgiveness.
Help us pace ourselves better and check in more.
Invite us to make better choices and can redirect us.
Can teach us how to experiment more.
Can reveal a new insight we didn'tthink of.
Can suggest new options we had not considered.
Can serve as a warning to not proceed.
Point out structural problems in our lives.
Prompt us to learn more about ourselves.
Make us more humble.
Help us rectify injustices in our lives.
Show us where to create more balance in our lives.
Tell us when the time to move on has occurred.
Reveal where our passion is and where it is not.
Expose our true feelings on what w3 are doing.
Bring out problems in a relationship that maybe the move to improve or end it.
Mistakes can be a red flag for our misjudgments.
Show us when we are not listening.
Wake us up to our authentic selves and not try to be anyone else.
Can create distance with someone else that is needed
Slow us down when we need to.
Can hasten change.
Reveal our blind spots.
Are the invisible made visible?
Help us see what matters and what does not.
Inform us more about our values.
Teach us more about others.
Let us recognize changing circumstances.
Show us when someone else has changed.
Keep us connected to what works and what doesn’t work.
Help us to become more resilient.
I have realised that the more I push myself, the pace and complexity of the work I do increases, which has made mistakes inevitable and a part of my journey. The last few months I have definitely made more mistakes than ever, especially as I have been leveling up. That is because I am working harder on trying a lot of new things. Giving everything my best but challenging myself to being willing to passionately fail more. Mistakes are a normal part our journey and help us discover who we truly are. We learn more about ourselves, what our limits are, our capabilities, and what we can and cannot do. So I am willing to keep ‘Passionately Failing Towards Success’.
